Notes of a Military Reconnoissance From Fort Leavenworth: View on the Gila

A lithograph print of Stanley's sketch of a view on the Gila River in which a line of men and mules cross through a dense area of trees and wade through the river on their march. The mountainous terrain incudes various buttes and saguaro cactus. Emory recorded that the lower portion of the plateau was full of shifting sandbars and in some areas the waters were shallow enough to cross between sand islands. [This lithograph is from the book "Notes of a Military Reconnoissance. From Fort Leavenworth, In Missouri, to San Diego, in California, Including part of the Arkansas, Del Norte, and Gila Rivers" written by William H. Emory, between pages 96 and 97.]
