Apuntes Para La Historia de la Guerra entre Mexico Y Los Estados-Unidos: General Arista

A lithograph portrait of Mexican military leader General Mariano Arista dressed in military uniform. An important Mexican military and political figure, the general did not recognize Texas' independence and served as the Mexican commander on the lower Rio Grande in 1845 as the troubles with the United States intensified. From April 4, 1846 until defeated at the Battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma, he commanded the Army of the North. In 1851 he succeeded Herrara as president of Mexico and served for two years. [This lithograph is from the book "Apuntes Para La Historia de la Guerra entre Mexico Y Los Estados-Unidos" edited by Los Redactores and illustrated by Plácido Blanco, between pages 34 and 35]
