Lithograph portrait of Mexican diplomat, jurist, author, and academic Don Jose Bernardo Couto who served as Minister of Justice during the Presidency of Jose Joaquin Herrera in 1845 and participated in the negotiations for the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo which was signed on February 2, 1848. During the war he published Discurso sobre la Constitucion de la Iglesia (1847).
