Notes of the Mexican War: Battle of Cerro Gordo

A printed map of the Battle of Cerro Gordo with north oriented to the right and Rio de la Plan running vertically through the battle grounds and a star to denote the hill of Cerro Gordo. This map depicts the locations of the National Road, the American army (east) and battery, the road taken by General Twiggs, General Pillow's and General Shield's brigades, and the locations of the Mexican batteries. On April 13, 1847 Oswandel and the troop of volunteers were ordered by General Twiggs to prepare to storm the pass of Cerro Gordo. On April 17, the divisions were in place and Colonel Wynkoop read orders from General Scott to storm the batteries the next morning, April 18. [This lithograph map is from the book "Notes of the Mexican War 1846-47-48, Revised 1885, Illustrated" by J. Jacob Oswandel, page 117.]
