Notes of the Mexican War: Attacked by Guerillas

A print of Mexican guerillas on horseback attacking American troops. Guerilla warfare was frequent strategy used by Mexican forces throughout the war. American soldiers often went hunting for guerillas in retaliation for attacks against the troops and Oswandel writes about some of these encounters on their march along the National Road in April and May 1847 when General Solas was actively recruiting for his guerilla corps. [This lithograph is from the book "Notes of the Mexican War 1846-47-48, Revised 1885, Illustrated" by J. Jacob Oswandel, page 151.]
