Notes of the Mexican War: Siege of Puebla, Began September 13, Ended October 12, 1847

A print of the Siege of Puebla which began September 13, 1847 and ended on October 12, 1847. This print is based upon an earlier and larger chromolithograph based upon a sketch by James T. Shannon. It depicts American troops scaling the walls of the San Jose Church on the left, Colonel Child's Headquarters are shown on the right, in the center is Guadaloupe Heights or the San Jose Quartel, in the distant background is Fort Loretto, and the foreground of the print shows wounded soldiers, work crews filling sandbags, artillery troops marching to reenforce gaps in the defenses.
