Notes of the Mexican War: Plaza de la Constitucion, City of Mexico

A print of the Plaza de la Constitucion in the City of Mexico with the Catholic Cathedral on the left, the National Palace on the right, and the Constitucion Monument in the center of the plaza between two fountains. Oswandel writes that after arriving in the Plaza de la Constutucion on January 23, 1848 (taking with them one hundred cannons and four thousand prisoners in order to place the American flag from the Mexican capitol) he and the troops went straight to the cathedral which was large enough to hold twenty-five thousand people. [This lithograph is from the book "Notes of the Mexican War 1846-47-48, Revised 1885, Illustrated" by J. Jacob Oswandel, page 469.]
