"Our Army" on the Rio Grande by T. B. Thorpe: Front view of a private residence in Matamoros and side view of the same residence

Two prints showing the front and side views of a private residence in Matamoras. During the American occupation of the city of Matamoras, Thorpe states that this "large brick house [belonged to] a wealthy citizen, who was a colonel of militia on the 8th and 9th" and states that it had a "desolate front" that was "protected by thick heavy batten doors and shutters" and the second floor has a balcony from which the female family members would go to "enjoy the evening air". [These prints are from the book "Our Army on the Rio Grande," by T. B. Thorpe, pages 139 and 140]
