"Our Army" on the Rio Grande by T. B. Thorpe: Unfinished Cathedral, Plaza Matamoros

A print of the facade of the unfinished cathedral in the Plaza of Matamoras showing the large stone building with two towers connected by three archways. A bell may be seen hanging in the taller left tower. Groups of people are gathered in front of the building. During the American occupation of the city of Matamoras, Thorpe stated that a small room of the cathedral was used as a chapel and he witnessed several Mexican women praying during the Catholic mass. [This print is from the book "Our Army on the Rio Grande," by Thorpe, opposite page 142]
