Skeleton Map, Saltillo to Mazapil

A hand-drawn and annotated map sketch of Mexico with estimated distances (in miles) between cities including: Saltillo, Encantada, Canutillo, La Punta, Mazapil, Bonanza, La Pressa, Cedros, and Cuesta. During the Mexican-American War, engineers were sent across Mexico to map out the terrain and gather geographical data. Maps such as this provided the U. S. Army with as much military information as possible to plan military troop movements, monitor Mexican troops and camp locations, plot landmarks and cities, and provide additional reconnaissance.
