Antarctic Maps Open House in Special Collections

The UTA Libraries Special Collections Department is hosting an open house to showcase the recent donation of 150 maps of Antarctica from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21.
The maps, along with hundreds more stamps and postal covers of Antarctica, were donated to the university by NBC 5’s meteorologist David Finfrock.
These maps are from 1598 to the late 20th century. These artifacts tell the story of Antarctica, the explorers who have traveled there, and the scientists that work there today.
Evan Spencer, a public services librarian/archivist in the Special Collections and Archives Department, wants to encourage members of the UTA community and the public to come out and view these unique pieces of history.
“We are going to have all 150 maps from the recent David Finfrock donation of Antarctic materials out for people to see,” Evan said. “David Finfrock will be here for at least part of the event. He will be on hand to chat with people and tell them about the map collection. Everyone is welcome to come and attend this event.”
The UTA Libraries Special Collections Department is on the sixth floor of the Central Library building. For more information about the event, go to https://libraries.uta.edu.
