Course Reserves

Our Course Reserves service is one of the many ways we support educational affordability and student access! Materials requested by an instructor are accessible either online as E-Reserves or On-Site reserves, most of which are available through our self-checkout machines.

Can't Find Library Materials?

  • If materials are listed in the Libraries Catalog as "Available" and you can't find them on the shelf, please ask for a Search Request form. We’ll search for it twice over a period of 7 days. If we find it, we’ll contact you and hold it for 8 days. If we don't, we’ll mark it as "Missing," at which point you can request it through Interlibrary Loan
  • Materials listed in the Library Catalog with the status of "IN PROCESS" can be retrieved for you.

Who Can Borrow?

  • Academic Borrowers. This includes retired UTA employees (Faculty and Staff Identification Cards), members of other TexShare libraries, members of OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program, students enrolled in the UTA English Language Institute, and Students in the Upward Bound Program.
  • Courtesy Borrowers (Alumni, Friends, and Associates). UTA Alumni (bring your Alumni card and photo ID to the Central Library to receive a library card), Friends of the Libraries (bring your Friends card and photo ID), University Associates and Sponsors, spouses and children of UTA faculty, members of the Maverick Parent and Family Association, Arlington Public Library Patrons (bring your LibraryLiNK card and photo ID), and TexShare card holders.
  • Proxy Borrowers. MavExpress Cards holders may authorize others to check out materials for them. You are responsible for all materials, any overdue fines, damage, or replacement costs. The proxy borrower will present their own MavExpress Card when checking out materials for you.
  • Youth Borrowers. Borrowers under the age of 18 must have a Parental Consent Form on file. Please see our Youth Access Policy.

Renewals

Most materials can be renewed BEFORE their due date.

  • Online. Log in to My Library Account , select the items you wish to renew and the Request Renewal button.
  • By Phone or Email.Call 817-272-3224 and leave a voicemail box or email your request to AskUs@uta.edu. Please supply your name, mailing address, phone number, UTA ID, and the barcode number for the item.
  • In Person. Bring your Mav ID card to the service point at any library and ask a staff member.
  • Guest Borrowers. Please renew by phone or email (see above).
  • Interlibrary Loan. Renew online or call 817-272-3344.

You can’t renew an item if you’ve reached the maximum number of renewals (graduate students: 3; all others: 2), and you can’t renew a Recalled Item or high-demand items, such as bound or current periodicals or items on reserve. We also may not be able to renew your item if we receive incomplete information by voicemail or email.

Recalls

If you need an item that is currently checked out by another user, you can submit a recall request. Locate the item in the Online Catalog, log in to your account, select “Request This,” and complete the form. Items recalled for Reserve take priority over all other recall requests.

  • Certain materials may not be recalled: Reserve items, reference materials, periodicals, laptops and headphones, and items that are on order or in process.
  • It may take 10 days or more for a recalled item to be returned. If you can’t wait for the item, you can seek assistance at a service zone to find other libraries in the area that own the item.
  • We’ll e-mail you when the item is available. You may also check the status online.
  • The item is held for 10 days at the library of your choice. If you decide you no longer need the item, please contact us.

When an item you are borrowing is recalled, we’ll notify you by e-mail and by US Mail.  The loan period is shortened, and the item is given an adjusted due date (usually 10 days from the date of recall). If an item is recalled from you that you still wish to use, you may place your own recall, however the next user will be allowed to keep the item for 30 days before the next recall takes effect, and there may be other recalls ahead of you.

Request Items from Storage

The Library Collection Depository is a storage facility for older and less-used books. Five maximum requests per day per person are allowed for UTA faculty, staff, and students. When logged in to the UTA Library Catalog you may request an item and enter your desired pick-up location (personal delivery is available for faculty and PhD students).

Delivery Services

The Resource Delivery team provides special retrieval and delivery services for faculty, Ph.D. students, graduate students, distance education students, and students with disabilities.
