UTA Libraries Marketing and Communications Student Assistant Thirupatamma Amulya Yakkala wrote this article.
Rays of Light were captured through a hands-on craft workshop held on Oct. 11 at the UTA Central Library.
Through the FabLab's Glass Suncatchers workshop, students created a personalized glass decoration for their dorm room.
Students were provided with a wide range of stained-glass materials and a palette of vivid colors and textures.
Instructors taught them how to use glass cutters to shape and design their creations and glue additional decorations on top of them.
Akshatha Kavali, a computer science major, stated she had a suncatcher in her house bought from a store, but this is her first time making it herself.
"It was very fun making one for myself," Akshatha said. "I can't wait to hang it in my room."
Sahil Gaba, a grad student, stated that the instructors made the glass decor process fun and easy to learn.
"The precision of cutting glass was a fascinating challenge. I incorporated geometric shapes into my suncatcher, combining science and art," Sahil said. "It now hangs in my room, symbolizing my dual passions."
Grad student Michelle Duong shared the same thoughts as other workshop participants.
"Being far from home, this event allowed me to tap into my creative side. I designed a suncatcher that symbolizes unity and diversity," Michelle said. "It reminds me of the global friendships I've made at UTA."
If you missed out on the previous event, don't worry. Keep a lookout on the library's website or social media pages for updates on upcoming events. You would want to experience the fun and creativity that these events have to offer.
