The light of creativity shined bright as the UTA community came together to honor the hard work of faculty members on April 17.

The annual Faculty Creative Works event recognizes the art, books, music, patents, articles, and other media created by faculty members in 2022.

Dr. Jennifer Cowley, UTA President, shared her excitement with the audience about what these creative works represent to the university and community.

"I want to congratulate all our exceptional faculty for your hard work this past year. Your work adds to our collective knowledge of the community," Cowley said. "You're leaving a lasting legacy for yourself and all at UTA."

Cowley stated that the works on display represent the work done by more than 730 faculty members who created 34 books, 26 patents, 418 creative works and 1,344 articles.

She added that her "office is proud to be a partner in making this work possible."

During the evening, several grants were awarded to faculty members through the UTA Cares Grant program.

The grant supports educators interested in practicing and adopting Open Educational Resources when creating items such as course materials, media content and books, or collaborating with students on a project.

In the spring semester, nine faculty members were awarded grants to support their OER projects. Through these nine projects, an estimated 995 students will save approximately $113,294 per semester on textbook costs.

Two of the grants featured in the UTA Cares program were the OER Modification Grant and the OER Creation Grant.

The Modification Grant supports authors in customizing existing resources to produce a new Open Education Resource. The grant recipients were Rosie Kallie and Ida Klang.

UTA Libraries awarded two Experiential Learning awards to Dr. Robin Jocius, an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education. The second recipient was Allison Martin, who is a lecturer in the biology department.
