The paths leading to and from the UTA Central Library were packed with students making their way for the start of the fall semester on Monday, Aug. 21. Students shared their thoughts with library staff about what they hope to achieve in the academic year.

Dominic Henderson, a biology major, stated that his first day on campus was successful in getting to know his classmates and professors.

“So far, so good. I am already done with my classes for the day. I had two, one at 9 a.m. and the other at 10 a.m.,” Dominic said. “This is my first time returning to school in about six or seven months. I was an early high school graduate.”

Dominic’s ultimate academic goal is to use the knowledge he gains at UTA to become a pharmacist. He wants to transfer his credits into a pharmacy program at a neighboring university in a few years.

First Day Fall 2023 2

Students walk to class on the first day of the 2023 fall semester on Monday, Aug. 21.

Siddhart Murtute, a computer science major, journeyed from Mumbai, India, to become a Maverick. As the semester starts, Siddhart is working to get to know his new community while staying focused on his academics.

“My goal is to get familiar with the campus, try to make some friends and focus on my studies,” Siddhart said. “I already had my first class; political science and it has gone great.”

Fall 2023 semester 3

Students work on their laptops at the UTA Central Library in-between classes.

Lynette Anderson, a finance major, not only came to UTA because of the affordability that the university offers, but also wanted more independence in her life. When asked about why she came to UTA her decision boiled down to “location and cost.”

“I wanted to be far away enough from my parents but still in the state, so I did not have to pay out-of-state tuition,” Lynette said. “I went and toured a couple of the colleges around here; UTA was more economical because I am paying for my own college. I didn’t want to be $200,000 in debt by the end.”

Lynette stated after touring the campus, she fell in love with the nature aspect of it.

“Walking from class to class here is so much prettier than the University of Texas at Dallas. It is less urban, but you are still in an urban setting, which is what I wanted,” she said. “I accepted my admission right after my tour.”

We at UTA Libraries wish our students success throughout the academic year. Please stop by the library not only to study but to enjoy library-sponsored events that help to build community and synergy on campus.
