One of the values that Jasmen Evans brings to her job at the UTA Libraries FabLab is a passionate desire to help others achieve success. This quality shines through each time she works side by side with students or members of the UTA faculty and staff as they take an idea from dream to reality.

Jasmen knows the importance of working together to achieve a common goal. Before coming to the university, she spent eight years serving in the U.S. Air Force in water and fuel system maintenance with a deployment to Qatar.

Working at the FabLab has been a rewarding experience for Jasmen. She enjoys seeing an idea going from a concept to a tangible item someone can hold in their hands.

“I have been here at the library for two semesters, and I help facilitate learners’ ideas into real-world media,” Jasmen said. “For instance, If I want to make this object into a patch. We can take this image and put it into vector file format on (the computer). From there, you can put it on the 3D printer with a little bit of work. You can put it on the laser cutter and cut it out. No matter how vague or detailed, we do our best to help the learner translate their ideas through.”

Jasmen stated she enjoys the opportunity to share what the FabLab offers to new students.

“Some learners come in for personal projects. But my favorites are the freshman who come through on the (campus) tour,” Jasmen said. “I can give them one idea like a keychain, USB holder, or something practical that will bring them back into the lab.”

Jasmen stated the FabLab is an excellent resource for people who are not only working on projects related to their studies but provides a creative space for makers to be inspired, dream, and grow. She encourages everyone to stop by and see what the Fab Lab has to offer.
