Amanda Chara served as Research Coach for User Success & Services in the University of Texas at Arlington, Central Library.

“I originally applied to work in the Libraries back in 2017 before I had even stepped foot in a lecture hall, so I really didn’t know what to expect.” says Amanda as she discusses her journey at the Libraries. She attributes her prolonged time with us to the camaraderie she had with her colleagues and supervisors.

Amanda graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. She fiercely believes her job supported her academic goals, especially during the pandemic. On one hand, Chara realized her potential and learned how to push herself more by going out there and facing challenging situations. On the other hand, she says “I’ve also learned when to set limits and take care of myself, which has been essential during the pandemic.”

Her work entailed interacting with researchers, undergraduates or graduate students, which helped her develop her communication skills. She is optimistic that her experience enhanced this skill not just on a customer service level, but also on a professional level.

“I couldn’t recommend it more.” says Amanda when asked what advice she would offer to students who plan to apply for a position at UTA Libraries. Reflecting on her time at User Success & Services she adds, “Working here has been a huge support throughout my college career.”
