While the rain poured down on the UTA campus, it did not dampen the spirits or the optimism of students returning to class for the 2022 fall semester on Aug. 22. The Central Library was a flurry of activity as students waited inside for a break in the weather, studied, or relaxed for a few moments.

Nursing major Jasmine Kubia was working on a computer on the first floor. She felt very optimistic about the new academic year and what it would bring. On her first visit to the Central Library, the services offered to patrons impressed her.

“My first impression is that I like the setup. It is very new and modern. I have been to traditional libraries before and it is not impressive,” Jasmine said. “This is a place where you can come and sit down easily to work.”

Jasmine stated that UTA Libraries is different from other libraries because of its amenities, like the expansive quiet spaces to study. Regular libraries are limited in space, which creates very tight spaces, she said.

Erika Rivas stated she came to the university to major in education with the goal of becoming a teacher. She shared that growing up, she had several teachers who positively impacted her life, and she wants to do that for somebody else.

Coming to the Central Library on the first day of classes, Erika didn’t know what to expect but was surprised by the resources contained within the building.

“I walked into the library not knowing what it would look like at all, but I liked it so far,” Erika said. “I like how open it is, but also, you can have these types of areas where people can sit around and meet people. It is interesting.”

Aldane Grey, a Business Management major, started his third year at UTA and feels he is up to the challenges this academic year will bring.

Aldane shared his thoughts about the upcoming academic year while printing out his course schedules for each class.

“At least for the fall semester, I am taking five classes. It is pretty easy just from looking at the course schedules,” Aldane said. “I know that during my spring semester, I will take harder classes like finance. I have heard that it is a real kick in the butt. Other than that, I have heard that this fall semester will be pretty chill, hopefully. Cross my fingers.”
