Meet Alex Landy, New Experiential Learning & Education Librarian
I would like to introduce Alex Landy, new Assistant Experiential Learning & Education Librarian for the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries! He has worked in K-12 outreach programs for eight years and taught undergraduates for nine years.
Alexandra Pirkle (AP): As a way of introducing yourself in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/TV show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?
Alex Landy (AL): Well, my favorite piece of media is the Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan (Brandon Sanderson wrote the final books after Jordan passed away). It is a high fantasy series that spans 14 books, >11,800 pages, and 19 days of audiobooks. Jordan built an incredibly detailed and elaborate world in these books. It is the exact kind of story I’d write if I were a fiction writer because it has great characters, an intense plot, political intrigue, and magic. Amazon is filming a Wheel of Time show right now that I’m extremely excited about it.
I asked my wife how she’d answer this question for me, and she just said “NPR. All the programming on NPR is a perfect representation of you”. So, there is that.
AP: What three words best describe your personal aesthetic (e.g. cozy, eclectic, whimsical, vintage, etc.)?
AL: Comfortable, rustic, and resourceful.
AP: What makes you most excited to work for UTA Libraries?
AL: I’ll be developing ELO K-12 outreach programs. I’m really excited to take advantage of all the great resources at the UTA Libraries in developing these programs.
AP: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?
AL: I spent a month in the Trinidad rainforest studying guppies as part of my dissertation.
Thank you, Alex! We are excited to have you on board.
