Meet Iverlyn Peng, New Coordinator for Administrative Services
This interview was conducted by our editorial assistant, Sophie Spruce.
I would like to introduce Iverlyn Peng, new coordinator for administrative services at the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries! She comes to us from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy and has a year of experience working in libraries during her time at university in Taiwan.
Sophie Spruce (SS): As a way of introducing yourself to the rest of the library staff in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/tv show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?
Iverlyn Peng (IP): I have loved Chibi Maruko-chan (a Japanese anime and manga series) since I was a kid. I remember the first thing [I did] after school was to turn on the TV, concentrate [on] watching Chibi Maruko-chan, and ignore what my mom said. I was drawn by Maruko’s imagination, curiosity, and silliness. The stories would make me laugh out loud, even just for all the simple things in life!
SS: What makes you excited to work for UTA Libraries?
IP: The people who work for UTA Libraries are very organized, knowledgeable, and creative that makes me excited to work here!
SS: What is your earliest and/or most impactful memory of being in a library?
IP: If you are caught eating or talking too loudly, the security guard would escort you out.
SS: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
IP: I have always liked this quote from Bruce Lee, “Be Water, My Friend. Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend."
SS: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?
IP: I am from Taiwan, and I like to drive my school-bus-yellow Toyota FJ cruiser and listen to alternative rock!
Thank you for the interview, Iverlyn. We are excited to have you on board!
