Kartik Mann, new OER Specialist for UTA Libraries

Alexandra Pirkle (AP): As a way of introducing yourself in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/TV show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?

Kartik Mann (KM): Sherlock (2010) is my favorite series of all time. Sherlock depicts Sherlock Holmes solving various mysteries in modern-day London, assisted by his roommate and friend, Dr. John Watson. I identify with Sherlock with a touch of John. I'm not clever and certainly not lacking in empathy, but I do think I'm hypersensitive of my surroundings sometimes, and at times I wish I could shut my emotions down, which I suspect is what Sherlock has succeeded in doing.

AP: What three words best describe your personal aesthetic (e.g. cozy, eclectic, whimsical, vintage, etc.)?

KM: Composed, minimalistic, simple.

AP: Since you've lived in Texas for a while now, have you found any new favorites unique to this state?

KM: I have lived in Texas for over 3 years and the delectable flavors of Texas BBQ never cease to amaze me.

AP: What makes you most excited to work for UTA Libraries?

KM: Having experienced the warm and welcoming community of the UTA Libraries, I’m most excited to share my experience and knowledge to deliver on my commitment to serving students with prime learning resources.

AP: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?

KM: I can deadlift 405 lb.

Thank you, Kartik! We are excited to have you on board as a full-time employee.
