This interview was conducted by our editorial assistant, Sophie Spruce.

I would like to introduce Lainie Allen, new Library Specialist with the User Success and Services department at the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries! She has three years of experience in libraries and is coming to us after recently graduating from University of Glasgow, where her academic career specialized in book history and printing practices.

Meet Lainie Allen, new Library Specialist with the User Success and Services department

Sophie Spruce (SS): As a way of introducing yourself to the rest of the library staff in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/tv show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?

Lainie Allen (LA): This is a very interesting question. There are many books and movies I love. My favorite book would be Howl’s Moving Castle. I love Sophie’s journey of self-discovery. I resonate with the process of growth. At this stage of my life, I would say I am most represented by a new cloth bond journal. There is currently so much ahead of me, and I am looking forward to filling the pages.

SS: What makes you excited to work for UTA Libraries?

LA: I have always set goals for myself. I am excited to work for the UTA Libraries because I admire how libraries further learning by providing easy access to resources.

SS: What is your earliest and/or most impactful memory of being in a library?

LA: I come from a family of avid readers. My most impactful memory was sitting amongst my grandfather’s library shelves while we talked about our favorite books. This was one of my fondest memories because we strengthened our relationship on our mutual love of books.

SS: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

LA: “If you truly want to do something, the only thing stopping you are the limitations you place on yourself.” After hearing this, I remember I create the reality that I want.

SS: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?

LA: I grew up in the country. We raised chickens and had a large garden that was the source of most of our food. I personally loved cultivating three hives of bees that would pollinate our garden.

Thank you for the interview, Lainie. We are excited to have you on board!
