Alexandra Pirkle (AP): As a way of introducing yourself in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/TV show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?

Nicole Spoor (NS): One of my favorite books is The Sunflower by Simon Weisenthal. It is the story of his experience during the Holocaust and how he addressed a specific request. The last half of the book is written by various political, cultural, and religious leaders about how they would addressed the same request. I think this book represents me because it seeks to highlight different perspectives and that is something that is important to me. I think we all have varied expertise and experiences that we bring to the table and the best solutions are formed when we value and utilize this diversity.

AP: What three words best describe your personal aesthetic (e.g. cozy, eclectic, whimsical, vintage, etc.)?

NS: Minimalistic, Simple, Open

AP: Since you are new(ish) to Texas, what Texas-specific things are you most excited to try?

NS: I grew up in the Panhandle, but haven’t lived here for over 20 years. I plan to eat at Whataburger very soon and figure out why there is so much hype about Buccee’s. I can’t wait to take my kids to Palo Duro Canyon to see the musical, TEXAS!, which was my favorite thing I did every summer growing up.

AP: What makes you most excited to work for UTA Libraries?

NS: At the risk of sounding very cliché, this is really my dream job. I love teaching and the opportunity to work with others who think it is important work is exciting. Throughout the interview process, the enthusiasm and openness of everyone at UTA Libraries was clear and I look forward to being a part of that culture.

AP: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?

I am a pretty good poker player. Pre-kids, my husband and I played quite a lot and my empathic nature gave me the ability to read people fairly well which comes in handy when trying to take their money. 😉

Thank you, Nicole! We are excited to have you on board.
