Meet Roxanne Walker, New Administration Specialist
I would like to introduce Roxanne "Roxi" Walker, new Administration Specialist at the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries. She comes to us from North Central Texas College and has six years of administrative services experience.
Alexandra Pirkle (AP): As a way of introducing yourself in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/TV show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?
Roxanne Walker (RW): There’s a TV show – Supernatural – that sort of speaks to my soul. Folklore and urban legends meets pop culture and real-life lessons.
The show revolves around two brothers who were outsiders/outcasts but who grew up to be survivors with the mantra of “always keep fighting.” In their case, they mean fighting monsters, but the pop culture aspect fascinates me and ties well into the history of folklore and urban legends that have been constructed by cultures and societies throughout human history. Even though it is a work of fiction and is about the ‘supernatural,’ it’s also really inspiring.
Beyond the surface-level plot-line, the show is all about family and friends, life and death, and the human experience. It’s hard to describe unless you are a fan but it’s truly a wonderful show. You will laugh and cry and hate it and love it. It’s fantastic!
AP: What three words best describe your personal aesthetic (e.g. cozy, eclectic, whimsical, vintage, etc.)?
RW: Cozy, Eclectic, Varying.
AP: What makes you most excited to work for UTA Libraries?
RW: The people. Working with so many brilliant and creative minds, and with people who are so sincerely caring of others – I feel right at home.
AP: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?
RW: I have dual citizenship in the United States and the Netherlands. And I have a pet snake named Louis.
Thank you, Roxi! We are happy to have you on board.
