Alexandra Pirkle (AP): As a way of introducing yourself in this current environment, what piece of media (book/movie/TV show/album/etc.) would you say best represents yourself? Why?

Somaly Kim Wu (SKW): Becoming by Michelle Obama. I have read a number of great books throughout my life and career but this was the first book that truly resonated with me and inspired me to apply for this position.

AP: What three words best describe your personal aesthetic (e.g. cozy, eclectic, whimsical, vintage, etc.)?

SKW: Simple, peaceful, and zen.

AP: Since you are new to Texas, what Texas-specific things are you most excited to try?

SKW: I love to cook and eat so I am looking forward to trying everything from BBQ to bubble tea!

AP: What makes you most excited to work for UTA Libraries?

SKW:  I am most excited about being part of the enthusiasm and innovative energy I was privy to during my interview. I am also looking forward to getting to know my colleagues and to collaborate on new projects!

AP: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?

SKW:  I love everything coconut; water, cream pie, cakes, paletas etc!

Thank you, Somaly! We are excited to have you on board.
