The University of Texas at Arlington Libraries is celebrating National Women's History Month by highlighting some of the inspiring women who make this organization a model 21st century urban academic library.

Today's interviewee is Peace Ossom Williamson, Director of Research Data Services. Ossom Williamson has worked for UTA for 6 years and has 14 years of experience working in libraries.

Alexandra Pirkle (AP): What was your first library-related job? How did you come to that job?

Peace Ossom Williamson (POW): I was a circulation assistant at the Law Library throughout my undergrad program at The University of Oklahoma (OU). I was a work-study student looking for a job on campus!

AP: What role have women played in your career and life?

POW: My community includes many strong women who are doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, and more.

My sister is my biggest role model, cheerleader, and a treasured friend. She graduated from Harvard Law School as an exemplary student and works for the United Nations fighting for human rights. She also recently took a role teaching at Harvard Law School’s International Human Rights Clinic. Even with tons of accolades and experiences, she always says she is lucky and has remained exceedingly humble, sending me “crying Jordan” memes all along the way.

AP: What is one of your favorite things about working at UTA Libraries?

POW: I have a passion for research and data services, being able to plan and implement that plan, and to stretch myself to reach greater achievements. UTA Libraries has allowed for this unique combination of preferences, and I have enjoyed seeing our services and community grow!

AP: Who is your favorite woman historical figure? Why?

POW: At the moment, it is Michelle Obama. She has broken many barriers along her career and continues to do so.

AP: What is something about you that others would be surprised to know?

POW: I am an artist. I have sung in choirs from childhood through college, and I paint and dance.

Thank you, Peace, for all of your hard work and dedication to student success!
