Abram Tapia has always regarded the library as a place where the community can flourish and grow. As one of UTA Libraries' new staff members, Abram enjoys being a part of the community as he provides mentorship to the students he supervises.

"For me, a library is a place where not only a lot of knowledge is stored, but it is a place on campus where everyone from every field comes together," Abram said.

Abram joins the staff at UTA after spending the last several years working in the education fields at the elementary and high school levels. Before working in the education field, he worked in the theology library at Emory University in Georgia. At Emory, Abram double majored in philosophy and comparative literature, graduating with honors two years ago.

At UTA Libraries, Abram is one of two supervisors that oversee the operations of the One Desk on the second floor of the Central Library. The One Desk is where library patrons can find out information about resources, ask questions, and be directed where to go to find the information they seek.

As a supervisor, Abram wants student employees and patrons to feel connected and plugged into the library community. He also wants to ensure their needs are met and questions answered when they come to the library.

Abram shared that when he heard about the library's direction, he was "incredibly excited" how UTA Libraries is shifting away from the traditional model of a library and looking towards the future. Maker spaces like the FabLab or the Studios on the first floor and more study spaces throughout the library really help to move that vision for the future forward.

He wants to encourage people to stop by and explore what the library has to offer.
