The chance to be a mentor to students is one of the many reasons that brought Heather Claney to UTA Libraries. Heather is the new Manager of Community Events here at the library.

Heather stated she looks forward to working with students because this is such a pivotal time in their lives when life-changing decisions are being made. She looks forward to being a part of a team that puts students first.

“When I came over here to meet the team and see the space, I was super impressed with the inclusivity and dedication in trying to accommodate, be respectful and be mindful of all students,” Heather said. “That was something that I really respected about UTA. It made me excited to work with them.”

In her role as Manager of Community Events, Heather works to help and offer support to the team in the Community Engagement Department here at UTA Libraries. Community engagement works to provide programming, events and customer service that connects with members of the UTA community. Some of these events the Community Engagement Department has become known for include Maverick Kitchen, Crafty Corner, Sew Sustainable, and Doggy Daze.

Heather looks to build on the foundation of programming already in place at the library and pass along the knowledge she has learned to others, whether it is through training fellow employees or helping students.

She appreciates the warm welcome she has been given by everyone here at UTA Libraries. Heather added that this welcome has made her feel like a part of the team from day one, making her move from the Arlington Public Library to a university library a positive one.
