Doggy Days have returned for the fall semester, bringing smiles to UTA students. With furry friends, wagging tails and friendly barks, the event has once again provided stress relief to the students.

The Doggy Days event was held on the sixth floor of the Central Library on Sept. 20. Students showed up in large numbers, eagerly waiting for their turn with one of three dogs: Sassy, a mini Dachshund; Lucy, a West Highland Terrier; and Henley, an Australian Shepherd.

This event allowed students to spend quality time with therapy dogs, giving them a break from their busy schedules and de-stressing at the libraries.

During each monthly meeting, students can sign up for 15-minute time slots with the therapy dog of their choice. The event features three to five dogs, each with a unique charm. Students get to pet and snuggle with the dogs and learn more about them from their handlers.

David Anderson, an engineering major, stated that dogs are a valuable student resource.

"I was going through a tough week, but Doggy Days turned it around," David said. "Those dogs didn't just make me smile; they brought instant happiness."

Heather Claney, manager of community events, stated that it is great to have this event back at the library for a new academic year.

"It's exciting to be able to have them back during the fall 2023 semester," Heather said. "We hope students will use the opportunity to pause with some paws and de-stress in the libraries."

Yash Tobre, a computer science grad student, stated he loved how the dog he visited with had a name that reflected its personality.

"I personally loved the dog named Sassy. She is living up to her name. She's a tiny dog with a big, loving attitude," Yash said. "I instantly fell in love with her the moment I saw her."

Doggy Days is a fantastic event that brings happiness and relaxation to UTA students. If you can't make it to this one, don't worry. The next Doggy Days will take place from Noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Central Library.

Keep an eye on the library's announcements through its website or social media channels for updates on future library events.
