Excitement was in the air as students returned to campus for the start of the 2023 spring semester Tuesday, Jan. 17. Students in between classes stopped by the UTA Central Library and shared their thoughts about the beginning of the new semester.

Daniel Imafidon, a biology major, was starting his first day at the university after transferring from a college in Canada. He shared that it is essential to keep an eye on the goals that you have set out for yourself.

“Focus on your long-term goals. Make sure you are on track to where you want to be a couple of years later instead of thinking about the short-term,” Daniel said. “Be more forward-thinking.”

Daniel stated that one of his long-term goals is to attend medical school to become a pediatrician. He encourages people to do their best as they begin their studies for the spring semester.

Taylar Krantz, a Mechanical Engineer major, stated that the spring semester will have its challenges but remains confident that everything will turn out well.

“As of this moment, I don’t know -how difficult the classes are going to get, but I have a lot of math and engineering classes this semester,” Taylar said. “Hopefully, that is not going to overwhelm me.”

Taylar stated that it is essential to focus on your studies but reminds people that you need to make time for yourself during this chapter of life by creating the most opportunities to enjoy life, make memories and share moments with others.

“College is about having new experiences,” Taylar said. “Don’t just go there for classes; make time for friends because friends make college easier.”

Diana Lazrou-Odess, a physics major, reminds fellow students that there is nothing wrong with reaching out for help or asking for resources to aid a person in their studies. She noted that many departments have resources that students can access and are available to use.
