Working at the front desk of the UTA Central Library, David Ogidan is one of the first people that visitors see as they enter the building.

With each meeting, David works to transform a patron’s experience at the library from something ordinary to extraordinary in his role as a Library Guest Service Specialist.

A recent UTA graduate, David has a unique perspective to his role, understanding the delicate balance that students strive to maintain in their academic journey.

“I can relate to students quite a bit. My academic background as an undergrad was varied. I started college as a software engineering major but switched to a drawing major with a concentration in animation and gaming,” David said. “So, I can understand and relate with students on various levels regarding what they are working on here at UTA.”

In his position at UTA Libraries, David not only supervises student workers at the front desk but also provides them with guidance to ensure guests have a memorable experience. He also helps with the many different events that take place at the Central Library.

David's passion for art serves as a unique connection point with both students and colleagues.

“My interest in origami started in fifth grade, but many childhood hobbies drop off as you grow up. It was only recently, last year that I rekindled it,” David said. “I like to introduce myself to students and warm up to them. One thing I do is make little origami trinkets for them if I meet somebody new at the front desk that day.”

Beyond his day-to-day responsibilities, David sees himself as a mentor to the students he interacts with regularly.

“My goal at the end of the day is to leave a positive impact on the students I serve and supervise,” he said. “At the end of the day, I want them to know that I look out for them.”

As he continues his journey, David looks forward to enhancing the library experience for both students and visitors alike.
