After spending more than two decades serving the technological needs of AT&T, Terry Brown concluded that a course change was needed in his career. Following a much-needed break, he has joined the UTA Libraries staff as its new applications administrator.

"After being in IT for so many years, I reevaluated what I wanted to continue to do within the field. So, I took some courses and went looking for my next role. I saw an opportunity on the UTA website and applied," Terry said. "After about three interviews, it went well, with a lot of questions coming from my future colleagues here. Soon after, I was offered the position and accepted."

Terry stated that his interest in technology came from a general curiosity and his ability to work with his hands. This interest has been passed to his son, Taylor Brown, a computer science major at Prairie View A&M.

"I enjoy working with hands-on projects, whether on the technical side with computers or with woodworking. I did consult him (Taylor) as he built his own computer from scratch with the hard drive, motherboard and memory," Terry said. "My son and I also built a desk for his room a few summers ago. The trick with woodworking is not being overconfident, knowing what you can do, and knowing when you might need help."

Terry shared that he is very proud of his son and feels like he will be a great fit in the computer science field due to his strong background in math along with being very detail-oriented.

As a systems administrator, Terry supports, troubleshoots, and maintains computer servers and networks. This work ensures that the library's systems are functioning at their peak efficiency, meeting the needs of staff and library patrons.

Since coming to the university, Terry has had tremendous support from everybody, which he truly appreciates.

"I have really enjoyed the camaraderie and the engagement of the team. That has been a big thing for me," he said. "I am excited to be here."

Terry, we are happy to have you as a part of the UTA Libraries family and look forward to what you will accomplish during your time with the university. The experience and knowledge you bring to the library will help make it a better place for everyone. Welcome to UTA.
