Nihal Kumarswamy talks about being a Graduate Research Assistant with Research Data Services in the University of Texas at Arlington Central Library.

The student defines his experience as a learning endeavor. “I have learned a lot not just from my coworkers but students and professors we have helped through Research Data Services.” He reflects on how perseverance and collaborative work boosted his academics.

When Nihal learned about the opportunity of working at the Libraries from his friend, he felt it was his time to give back to the community with which he had built a connection since his undergraduate days. His work with us had a lot of connection with his coursework, which was a key motivation when he applied for the position.

Kumarswamy feels confident about entering the workforce with all the knowledge he assimilated working as a GRA.

As he graduates with a Master's degree in Computer Science, he strongly feels that his work made him an expert with tools that he needs for his career. He shares with us how the working environment cultivated an increasing desire to learn and grow.

His advice for students who are considering for a position at UTA Libraries is - “If you like working with excited and wonderful people to make a difference in your community you should work at UTA Libraries.” As a parting note he adds “They also give gifts every month.”
