As the Assistant Director of Acquisitions, Angela Morse works to ensure that the offerings at UTA Libraries meet the educational needs of its patrons. Angela joined the library in December after working at Sam Houston State University.

“When I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin as an undergrad, I could not find a job with my degree in communications. I ended up applying and getting a job as a circulation clerk for the central library in Austin,” Angela said. “I decided I liked working in this field, so I made the library a career.”

Angela is part of the libraries’ Access and Discovery Department, which works to share resources and create greater access to them for patrons on campus and globally.

As the assistant director, Angela oversees the workflow connected with the serials, print or non-print publications and monographs, which are books that provide in-depth research on a specialized area. She reviews book donations, processes them, and decides if they will be kept in the library’s collection or sent to Better World Books.

“Better World Books is a vendor that will resell the books and give us part of the money. They sell the books to various people,” she said. “Sometimes designers want pretty books to put on client’s bookshelves. Other times, they might be valuable enough to another college, library, or bookseller that they might purchase them for their collection. They might donate them to a community or a country in need.”

Outside of the library, Angela enjoys spending time hiking and camping. This interest grew out of a family trip she took growing up.

“When I was about eight, my family and I traveled across the southwest United States. We stayed in campgrounds in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona,” she said. “That was just a memorable trip for me. We probably made that trip over four weeks. I like going and being in nature.”

Angela thanked everyone for welcoming her to campus and helping her as she was learning her job.

We are happy to have you on the UTA Libraries team and look forward to what you will accomplish next in your career. Welcome aboard.
