Having a can-do spirit and a willingness to help anyone are among the many things that Hailey Carson brings to UTA Libraries. Hailey recently joined the library as its new health and sciences librarian.

As the health and sciences librarian, one of Hailey’s main roles is helping students and faculty members with their research. This research assistance can mean helping them find articles on quantitative and qualitative data for specific data sets. It also means answering questions to point them in the right direction as they conduct research.

“We act as a resource for them. We can also help professors find research for their dissertations or any research they are doing,” she said. “They can come and ask us for help. They might say, ‘Hailey, I need some articles on this topic,’ and we can find them and send them to them.”

Before working at the library, Hailey graduated from UTA with her undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work.

After an internship in higher education, Hailey realized that working in a university setting was what she wanted to pursue rather than a career in counseling.

“I really fell in love with higher education because there are so many options. I can help students and give back to people in a way that is not as emotionally intense as counseling,” Hailey said. “It is kind of nice to know that I can do my own research, help build up the university and give back in a way that I would not have been able to in another field.”

Hailey shared that she has come to enjoy the variety in her work and the opportunity to do something different daily.

She noted that her experience at UTA Libraries has been very positive, and everyone has been welcoming, making her “feel like I belong here.”

Hailey, we are happy to welcome you here to our community and look forward to seeing you grow in your role here at the library.
