Whether it is setting up for a special event, seeing that a department gets its mail, or ensuring the UTA Central Library building operations are running smoothly is where you will find Dwayne Warren working behind the scenes.

For the past 30 years, Dwayne has served in several capacities at the library, starting in Acquisitions, later in Interlibrary Loan, and then working at the front desk. He now serves as the Mail Services Coordinator.

"Here at the library, I do a combination of things. I am in facilities with Kevin Schuck and we take care of the physical structure of the building in terms of keeping up with work orders, keeping things running smoothly, addressing problems that come up, and the (building's) physical appearance," Dwayne said. "I also help run the mail room because we always get deliveries in and out. Someone could come at any moment to drop off something."

Dwayne stated that he enjoys what each day brings here at UTA Libraries because something new always happens. These new challenges allow him to go throughout the building to meet with people, build relationships, and help solve problems during the workday.

In his role in the mailroom, Dwayne supervises three student employees and advises them to be prepared for any unexpected situation. He noted that you "never know what is going to pop up next."

The day might start with setting up for a library event one minute and then working with a situation like when the roof sprung a leak in the Special Collections Department on the sixth floor, he shared.

During his time here at UTA Libraries, one of the most significant changes that Dwayne has noticed is how technology is a greater part of a person's life.

With this shift, he feels the library has done well in keeping up and addressing students' needs by making the resources available to them.
