The mission of Vending machines over the years has been to put products in the hands of consumers. These products could be cold drinks on a hot day or snacks to keep hunger at bay before lunch.

UTA Libraries dispenses knowledge with its vending machines. These course reserve machines are located at the Central Library, outside the Engineering Lab Building across from Nedderman Hall and inside the west campus parking garage.

Leah McCurdy, director of open partnerships and services, stated that these machines provide greater access to resources students need.

“Zoltar, our newest Lendit machine, was recently installed at the Engineering Lab Building. It primarily contains science, engineering and business books,” Leah said. “The parking garage machine, Cecilia, is the other machine and has books related to classes on the west campus, like communications, music and kinesiology.”

Books checked out from one machine can be dropped off at a different one. However, it is preferred that users return them to the machine where they checked out the item.

Items can be checked out for two hours, three hours, or 24-hour hours and sometimes three days. People can access these machines 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The course reserves can be searched through the libraries’ online catalog by selecting the course reserves tab at the top of that page. Materials then can be searched by the instructor’s name or course. On-site reserves will have a call number and location.

Leah stated that these vending machines are vital in helping students be successful in their academic studies at UTA. The course reserves program supports student success in the classroom giving, them access to the textbook if they can’t afford it.

By deploying these vending machines, UTA Libraries strives to make knowledge and resources readily available, removing cost as the barrier.
