With the search underway for a new dean of libraries, Peter Zhang has been named the Interim Dean of UTA Libraries.

The current Dean of Libraries, Rebecca Bichel, will leave the university in April. She has been named Dean of Libraries and Information Resources at the University of North Dakota.

Peter has served UTA Libraries since July 2002, serving in several roles. Some of these roles include working in the cataloging unit, serving as the Department Head for Access and Discovery, and currently as an Associate University Librarian.

As interim dean, Peter feels honored to serve in this role and humbled by the vote of confidence from the university, library administration and fellow staff members.

During this change, Peter wants people to know that the same level of excellence delivered daily at UTA Libraries will continue. Library patrons will feel the same level of service they have come to expect. He credits this high level of success to the hard work put in by staff members.

"I think that staff is the core of this organization and the foundation of this organization. Becca had mentioned previously that UTA Libraries is not about her, me, or any of us in the senior leadership. Still, it is about all of us together as a whole. That remains true today," Peter said. "Think about the excellent service provided in the physical space or online. All of that is provided by the efforts of our incredible staff."

Peter feels that UTA Libraries is heading in a good direction with its services to its patrons while looking toward the future.

He feels that UTA Libraries often exceeds what other libraries of the same size or larger are doing to provide patrons with resources, technology and services.

"I think that we are doing a great job and have created a lot of great momentum," Peter said.

While searching for a new dean, Peter's role would be to provide a smooth transition focusing on maintaining staff morale and continuity. To help with that, he encourages everyone to stop by his office on the sixth floor in the library administration suite if they have questions, concerns, or suggestions on how to make the library a better place for everyone.

Peter wants to thank Becca for years of dedication and service to UTA Libraries, the university community, for mentoring many, and for being a strong advocate for student success.
