Honoree's Remarks

Connie Willis is a Nebula and Hugo award winning writer who work fills me with joy. I find the idea of time-traveling academics hard to resist. In addition, Connie Willis’ novels and short stories, filled with adventure and contretemps, are based on the ethics of friendship, family, and community. I find her works, in general, filled with compassion, but this one particularly so. The characters in this novel find themselves in horribly difficult situations in which they could have tried to save themselves but, instead, they chose to help others. Here characters make the reader want to be a better person. I highly recommend this novel as well as the others.
