Honoree's Remarks

Few recent books in political science have stirred as much debate as The Party Decides: Presidential Nominations Before and After Reform. In their book, Marty Cohen, David Karol, Hans Noel, and John Zaller set a new understanding for the primary election process and the nature of contemporary political parties. Though not without critics after recent presidential elections, The Party Decides provides a revised understanding for how party insiders control the selection of presidential nominees. The Party Decides is an important study that has influenced several areas of American politics research, including studies of political parties, elections, and the presidency.
