Dr. Charles B. Travis IV

As an M.A. candidate in geography at the University of Toledo, we were tasked with contacting a prominent geographer with a question. As my interest was in Ireland, I contacted the late Professor Anne Buttimer, who was based at University College Dublin, and one of the pioneers in the field of humanistic geography.  I can't quite remember my question- but I do remember her very succinct, almost oracle like answer: "read Brian Friel's Translations." I remember sitting at a bar reading the play and the "light of understanding" just switched on- almost a mystical experience really. This led me on the path, to where I am now.
