Honoree's Remarks

The author of this book, Dr. Edwin Gordon, is one of the reasons I am a college professor. He is internationally known as a preeminent researcher and author in the field of music education, and developed Music Learning Theory. During my career, I have had the opportunity to study, research, and collaborate with Dr. Gordon. Since my primary scholarly activity bridges research into practice, I have researched Music Learning Theory and have written about its implementation into music learning from birth through elementary school. This book consists of the exchange of letters between two influential music educators, Dr. Edwin Gordon and Donald Pond. Donald Pond conducted one of the first musical observations of young children and published these findings in 1941. This study is influential in the development of music curricula for early childhood music educators and influenced Gordon’s Music Learning Theory.
