Honoree's Remarks

I chose Dr. Breazeal’s book, Designing Sociable Robots, as she has been an inspiration in my work in social robotics and performance. Dr. Breazeal is a professor of media arts and sciences at MIT and founded the Personal Robotics Group at the iconic MIT Media Lab. Dr. Breazeal’s research interest - that robots should be seen as companions and interact with humans like other humans -  is similar to my own research. During my tenure-track, I utilized my expertise in performance theories to help program and guide the interaction of robots that improve the lives of humans. I am honored to be associated with Dr. Breazeal’s many accomplishments in the dedication of this book to UTA. I hope UTA students, especially female students, will see in her a model for art + science success.
