Honoree's Remarks

The Great Brain Race book by Bob Wildavsky is simply reminding us that we live in a global society and we must adjust to this reality. The book talks about international ranking and rating that are becoming an increasing part of the higher education landscape. The book provides evidence on initiatives taken by different universities and countries to compete in attracting foreign students and set up offsite campuses. The book reminds us about the growing presence of for-profit colleges and universities that are opening campuses worldwide. While some may see the rise of worldwide competition as a threat, the author argues that the global higher education marketplace contributes to the spread of knowledge that has always been the mission of universities.
