Honoree's Remarks

The title of this collection riffs on Gloria Anzaldua’s much loved essay, “How to Tame a Wild Tongue,” by announcing that a wild tongue can’t be tamed! Bringing together award-winning writers with emerging voices in the LatinX community, You Can’t Tame a Wild Tongue aims to enlarge our understanding of the varied and layered experiences of the LatinX diaspora. Drawing on personal stories and lived experiences, these writers carouse around wide-ranging topics. Ghost stories, adoption, kitchen memories, and travel are just samplings of the diverse subjects in which the writers share their adventures, heartbreak, and joy. It is a timely offering that will resonate with our UTA Students, many of whom will see themselves and their own families reflected in the stories.
