In her career capping book Truth and Repair, Dr. Herman methodically draws on her years of research with survivors of trauma to demonstrate the importance of listening to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. She outlines four stages of recovery for survivors of trauma- the establishment of safety and agency, the chance to review, grieve, and make meaning, a time to re-engage with themselves and their communities, and a time for survivor-defined justice & systemic repair. I am thankful for the way I have been able to model my career and impact at UTA on the work of so many like Dr. Herman, and look forward to continuing this journey.
