As an astronomer and astrophysicist, I feel that this work by Sir Newton is special, since it is where the greatest-ever astronomical observations of the planetary motions before the invention of telescopes directly connect to the backbone of physics, the Laws of Motion and Universal Gravitation. I am in love even with the title of this book, "Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy", which is a beautiful, if not perfect, description of the scientific discipline, physics.
