Honoree's Remarks

One of the most difficult challenges faced by political communication and public relations practitioners is to change attitudes and reform public behavior, particularly when that behavior is toxic and practiced globally.  This book describes the successful lifelong efforts of British parliamentarian William Wilberforce to end the global slave trade and to eventually abolish slavery throughout the British Empire. Wilberforce accomplished this during a time when the trade and practice of slavery was largely accepted. Author Eric Metaxas describes the passion, skill and methods used by this remarkable communicator in accomplishing these historical milestones. Although modern technologies have radically changed our modes of communication, this book reveals how the conviction, perseverance, strategy and tactics of Wilberforce and others continue to guide us as we develop campaigns to face new global challenges.
