Honoree's Remarks

Dr. Varanasi was first introduced to the writings of Dr. Smith and Dr. Van Ness in 1994 when he purchased this book as an undergraduate in Chemical Engineering at the University of South Florida. This book transformed his career at the early age of 19 where he used this textbook to help him in an undergraduate research project involving the computational modeling of various chemical processes by understanding the chemical interactions of solvents and solutes in industrial anthracene processing. He published his first 3 papers back in that time and since then has been involved in research using these fundamental principles to apply even to his own research today in bone and muscle regeneration using biomaterials.
