Honoree's Remarks

Tuesdays with Morrie has been my favorite book since I first read it in graduate school. In reading this true story, I was moved by the important impact a professor can have on the life of a student. This book made me more sure than ever that for me, being a college professor was the highest calling one might aspire to. When I graduated with my PhD, I gave a copy of this book to my major professor to remind him of the important impact that he had made in my life. I have learned that the life of an academic has many obstacles and in my career there have been challenges to overcome that I would not have anticipated as a graduate student. During these times I have reread Tuesdays with Morrie again and again. This book always reminds me of why I first came to this profession and reignites my passion for helping students. Most of all this book reminds me that, first and foremost, we are all here to change the lives of students.
